Environmental education badly done

Posted in: Comment, News and Updates

At the recent GEEP meeting, we watched a video of a child in floods of tears as he was about to be driven home from school.  He was railing about what he'd learned about environmentally destructive policies: "Why are they killing all the animals?", he kept asking.   I wondered if this is what bad environmental education does to you (or was it ESD, perhaps?).

The child's mother seems to take it all in her stride, and in many ways her calm response was admirable (if deciding to video it all, or suggesting he make a poster, were less so).  I wondered if she went back to the school to ask how and why her child had been reduced to an emotional wreck.

I was going to provide a link, but that feels like encouraging voyeurism.  Anyway, there are enough clues in here if you're determined to find it.
