I noticed in this week's NAEE weekly update that Manchester University’s School of Arts, Languages and Cultures had organised a competition for UK school students to write a speech or letter, addressed to the UN, on the climate emergency.
It was good to see this; what young people wrote has been published here and I recommend a read of what has emerged.
The university said that there were "hundreds" of entries. How curious, then, that of the 14 youngsters mentioned in dispatches, 10 came from only 4 schools – with 6 from 2 schools. I put this down to enthusiastic teachers. But what does this say about all the other schools out there?
9 of the 14 came from year 9 & 10 students, with ~65% coming from girls (as far as I could tell).
