Ignite events run in 100 cities worldwide and it’s a way for presenters to share their personal and professional passions - quickly!

Each presenter has just five minutes to cover 20 slides which auto advance every 15 seconds.

The first Ignite event will run at the University on Wednesday 19 September at the Claverton Rooms from 4.30pm to 6pm and all staff and students are welcome.

Up to 10 speakers will present at the event and their talk will be filmed and added to the Ingite web-based repository.

Ignite Bath will feature speakers including:

  • Professor David Coley – Architecture &Civil Engineering
  • Dr Jonathan Dawes – Mathematical Sciences
  • Dr Philippe Blondel – Physics
  • Raghav Sharda - Student entrepreneur
  • Dr Joanna Coleman - Public Engagement
  • Dr Chris Bevan – Psychology
  • Dr Valeska Ting – Chemical Engineering
  • Dr Adam Joinson – School of Management

The event is organised by the Research Development and Support Office. Caroline Ang, Research Development Manager, said: “Ignite is a format I have seen working well in other Universities and is a great way of engaging a wide and varied list of speakers to a general audience.

“More and more researchers are expected to engage with diverse communities and communicate their research in a way that is perhaps outside the traditional format. Ignite is an excellent way of doing this and because it is filmed it means that the talk and the impact will reach a potentially huge audience and ignite interest in the research we do here at Bath!”
