Academics from the Department of Chemistry invited to edit a journal collection for Phil Power’s 65th Birthday.

This week we welcome Prof Philip P Power, FRS to the University as a Global Chair. Professor Power recently turned 65 and, in honour of this anniversary, the Royal Society of Chemistry invited members of the Department of Chemistry to edit a special collection of papers. In collaboration with Roland C Fischer, at Graz University of Technology, Austria, Dr David Liptrot and Professor Michael Hill were guest editors for a special collection in Dalton Transactions and Chemical Communications.

The collection highlights nearly RSC 30 papers from Professor Power’s career, starting with his earliest, emphasising the breadth of his contributions to chemistry. Alongside these, previous co-workers, collaborators and scientists whose work shares an affinity with Professor Power’s were invited to submit high-quality original research leading to more than 45 additional publications in the collection.

We hope others will join us in celebrating this anniversary of an icon of organometallic chemistry. We highlight the collection in the hope that it will inspire members of the university community to engage with Professor Power during his visit as a Global Chair.

A welcome reception was organised and attended by staff across the University, including the Vice-Chancellor.

You can download articles from the collection Philip Power at 65: an icon of organometallic chemistry.
