Bath Olympic success: update from new Vice-Chancellor Phil Taylor

Posted in: Campus news, Newsletters

A message from the new Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Phil Taylor.

It is a real privilege to be the new Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bath.

Bath is a fantastic university – performing well, in good health and with huge potential as it approaches its 60th anniversary. I am very ambitious for the institution and want to take it to even greater heights in the next few years.

I hope to meet many of you over the coming months and hear your thoughts and ideas for the University’s next steps. There are challenges as well as opportunities ahead, but our talented and inspiring community is well placed to respond.

In July, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend some of the Olympic events in Paris. Our sporting scholars and Bath-affiliated athletes performed exceptionally well, finishing with two gold medals, three silver, one bronze and a host of historic achievements. You can read about their sporting successes in Team Bath’s Olympic round-up.

With the Paralympics underway, we are cheering on seven athletes who train at the University. They have already achieved recognition on the international stage, so we have high hopes for further medal success.

I look forward to working with our global community and building on the University’s accomplishments. Together, we will continue to shape a successful and sustainable future, rooted in our region but with truly international reach.

With best wishes

Professor Phil Taylor
