Making connections for engaged environmental science

Posted in: Doing Public Engagement

Interested in making connections with natural environment organisations based in South West England? Come along to the Natural History Consortium's Making Connections event on Tuesday 14 January 2025.

Growing Shoots

The Natural History Consortium (NHC) is hosting a networking and relationship-building event between its members as part of its Growing Shoots project and is inviting you to come along.

This event aims to map previous and/or existing collaborations between and across the NHC partners to help reveal gaps and explore priorities and the potential for future collaborations/funding bids.

If you're interested in working with organisations outside the University around engaged environmental research or, more broadly, nature-related citizen science, public engagement, green skills and green health, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Making Connections event

When: Tuesday 14 January 2025, 12:30-14:30

Where: Percy Community Centre, New King Street, Bath, BA1 2BN

Who is it for?

Anyone interested in environmental science looking to form new connections, explore collaborative opportunities, or share your ideas on how your work can engage with the wider community.

Natural History Consortium

Founded in 2002, the Natural History Consortium aims to engage people with the natural world through collaborative action. This charitable collaboration is made of 14 organisations working in the South West of England, including us here at the University of Bath as well as:

  • Avon Wildlife Trust
  • Bath and North East Somerset Council
  • BBC
  • Bristol City Council
  • Department for the Environment and Rural Affairs
  • Forestry England
  • National Trust
  • Natural England
  • University of Bristol
  • University of the West of England
  • Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust
  • Woodlands Trust

Recent collaborations over the last year have seen University of Bath researchers participating in the Milsom Street Takeover for the Festival of Nature 2024, Milner Centre for Evolution research working with other NHC members to successfully secure funding for collaborative research from the Natural Environment Research Council, and researchers from the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations sharing their work during the NHC annual Communicate Conference.

Dean Veall is Deputy Head of Public Engagement at the University of Bath.
