It has been a quiet month since my introductory blog post, so I thought I would post a quick update to let you know what has been happening in August and what September has in store. Read on to find out what has been going on!
August
My master's summer project has been keeping me busy in August, and I have been working on finishing my dissertation for the MSc part of the EngD. The deadline for this submission is coming up soon, after which I will be able to focus more on the new project, Augmented Reality for Dementia. My supervisors and I also met in August to discuss the start of the project in more detail. I have started some preliminary reading for the literature review, one of the first steps in our project plan, and it has made me very excited to explore the field of inclusive design. More on this to come in October when I officially start my research.
September
We are already into September, and there are lots of exciting things going on this month. The master's part of my course will come to a close when I hand in my dissertation on 14th September (or before!). After this, I have two weeks off but I am still getting involved with events going on in Bath. In fact, I will be creating two presentations for two separate events (more info below). I will also be reading more about inclusive design and augmented reality research before starting the literature review in October.
The first presentation is for the upcoming Assisted Living Action Network (ALAN) event in Bath on 18th September. The focus for this month's event is about how new technology can be used to support health and wellbeing. In my presentation I will talk about my research project at Designability. If you are interested in the event, you can sign up to attend by clicking here.
The second presentation is as part of the induction week to welcome the new Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE) students who will be joining the university at the end of September. I am looking forward to meeting the new cohort, and also having a CDE induction myself, since I missed last year's due to joining the centre later in the semester.
Both of these events will be a great way for me to share the plan for my research project with different members of the academic and industrial worlds, and also to network with interested parties. Look out for updates throughout September and posts with the slides from my presentations!
