The University of Bath has been running a central HPC system since 2007 and this last year we saw the latest HPC system come into service, Balena. The Balena HPC system is a £1.36M joint investment by the University, SAMBa CDT (Mathematical Sciences) and Prof Butler's research group (Mechanical Engineering).

The Balena HPC system comprises of over 3,000 CPU cores, 22 NVIDIA and 22 Xeon Phi accelerator cards, along with a 200TB high-performance parallel storage system. Balena also sees the introduction of a high-end visualisation suite, which will enable our community to interact and render large 3dimensional data and simulations from a remote location.
