New product - Microsoft Hololens

Posted in: Equipment, News

Microsoft have recently announced the release of a new development project - the Hololens.

The Hololens is an advance on augmented reality and virtual reality by enabling us to interact with three-dimensional holograms blended with the real world based on a set of glasses. It seems to be more than a simple heads-up display, and its transparency means it is possible to see the world around you.

In order to get realistic holograms - it will trick the brain into seeing light as matter. We all  perceive the world because of light. Photons eventually they hit the back of the eyes, and through that, the brain will reason about what the world is. Essentially what is seen is what the mind wants to see.

To create images, light particles bounce around millions of times in the "light engine" of the device. Photons will enter the goggles’ two lenses, where they ricochet between layers of blue, green and red glass before they reach the back of your eye.

Lorraine Bardeen of Microsoft demonstrates the prototype.

It looks to be an interesting product under development. We will investigate further.....
