New year, new arrivals

The new academic year is here again and as always it's a time of great excitement and activity in the department and across the University.

We were busy with preparations for an open day on 12 September and the intake of new students over 19 and 20 of September.

On open day, we welcomed thousands of prospective students, as they explored our facilities and found out all about our courses, research, accommodation and other services. Despite the rain showers, we saw plenty of happy faces.

Hopefully we'll be seeing those smiles again next September as many of those visitors move in to their accommodation for the first time as they begin their University career with us, as was the case for thousands of new students on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2015.

To see the baton of independence being passed on to the next generation is a wonderful thing to witness, and it's something we're. as a department, particularly proud to be part of, providing the new homes for thousands of new students.

New look for outlets

We've also given some of our bars and eateries a facelift, with Parade Bar & Grill undergoing a total re-brand over the summer, featuring a brand-new menu full of delicious, high-quality, home-made burgers and bar food.

This year we've installed more IPTV screens around campus with the aim of improving student experience with digital menu screens and coverage of the Rugby World Cup in many of our food outlets (Sports Café, lime tree and Parade Bar & Grill).

Keep up to speed with dates and times of match coverage in our venues through our Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Helping students settle in

In the Quads, we're also showing informative, instructional videos which we hope the students will find useful and engaging and answer many common questions.

Those videos cover everything from living in University accommodation and how to use features in The Quads, to highlights of Freshers' Week and advice on what to do in their first few weeks of University.
