The University of Bath was proud to take part in the 2026 Brilliantly Engineered event at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI) last week, joining a vibrant celebration of engineering innovation and creativity. The event brought together local industry, researchers, students and the wider community for four days of hands-on discovery and conversation about the role of engineering in shaping the future.

More than 2,000 members of the public attended throughout the weekend, and 252 school students during the weekdays, many of whom had the opportunity to engage directly with real engineering projects and the people behind them. The University of Bath was represented by four of its outstanding student teams - Team Bath Drones, Team Bath Heart, Team Bath Prosthetics, and Team Bath Electric Racing - alongside researchers from Chemical Engineering.

Each team showcased the ingenuity and dedication that define Bath’s student engineering community. From autonomous drone technology to life-saving cardiac devices, advanced prosthetics and high-performance electric racing vehicles, visitors were able to see first-hand how students are applying their skills to solve real-world challenges. The Chemical Engineering team also shared insights into their membranes research, demonstrating how cutting-edge science translates into practical solutions.

The event also provided a valuable opportunity for outreach and collaboration. University staff and students exhibited alongside leading engineering companies including Dyson, BMT, Buro Happold, Rotork, and Fielden Clegg Bradley, highlighting the strong connections between academia and industry in the region.

For the University of Bath teams, Brilliantly Engineered was not only a chance to inspire future engineers, but also a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry partners and the local community.
