Teaching staff and members of the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) came together on the 8th October in the Chancellor’s Building to explore how climate and sustainability education can be enhanced across the University.
The session was led by Professor Steve Cayzer, Learning and Teaching Liaison for the University’s Sustainability and Climate Action Team, and Nicki Schantz, a former postgraduate student and staff member who has been supporting the University in this area of activity.
Nicki led participants through a range of resources, including those developed with Dr MariCarmen Gil Ortega (Department of Education) as part of a Teaching Development Fund project supported by the CLT, available to support staff engagement in how issues of sustainability and climate change are relevant across all disciplines. Nicki’s presentation drew on university data to highlight ways in which departments and faculties might review and enhance provision, including how to make students aware of the knowledge and skills they are developing.
You can access the Education for Sustainable Development resources that Nicki and MariCarmen have developed, with a University of Bath login, via the Teaching Hub. They are practically-orientated materials offering guidance and resources on aspects such as curriculum design, skills development, and pedagogy.
If you would like to discuss these resources or explore ideas for undertaking climate and sustainability initiatives in your area of teaching, please contact Dr Richard Mason, Curriculum and Academic Developer in the CLT.
