Happy start of semester everyone! We wanted to take this opportunity to welcome new members of staff joining the University this year and introduce Kaleidoscope to everyone.
This group was launched in 2017 by LGBT+ staff members who want to create an inclusive and fun LGBT+ community for staff and postgraduate researchers here at the University of Bath. The group is open to all staff and postgraduate researchers at the University who identify as LGBT+, including people of any sexual orientation or gender identity.
What do Kaleidoscope do?
As a social group we run monthly on campus meetups and regular socials in the City of Bath – we’ve even been known to hit Bristol every now and again! We were also responsible for holding the first ever Campus Pride in 2021, which grew to involve the SU in 2022, and we will be involved the planning of going forward.
Coming up this semester we have:
- 6 October - After work social, Lime Tree - campus, 5.15pm
- 13 October – Lunchtime meetup, Claverton Rooms - campus, 12-1pm
- 14 October – Magic bar social, Sleight - 1 York Street, 7pm
- 10 November – Lunchtime meetup, Claverton Rooms - campus, 12-1pm
- 14 November – Pub quiz, Bath Brew House, 7pm
- 8 December – Lunchtime meetup, Claverton Rooms - campus, 12-1pm
- 4 December – Christmas brunch! Bath city centre, 11am
If you’re new to Kaleidoscope and want to familiarise yourself with the Committee, you can read their profiles and see photos here!
We also work closely with Rajani Naidoo, Vice-President (Community & Inclusion), and the University’s Culture and Inclusion team on issues that affect LGBT+ people who work and study here. We have consulted for the team on policy, procedures and processes amongst other things.
How can you get involved?
The first step is to join our mailing list! We regularly email our members with details of upcoming events, socials, workshops and talks. (If you are interested in our work but do not identify as LGBT+ you can join our Allies mailing list.)
You can also join our Yammer group to chat with other Kaleidoscope members and build a community of friends. New for this semester we will be posting weekly chat topics so we can all get to know each other a little better.
We are also in need of new committee members, so keep an eye on the blog for details of the vacancies, or email lgbt-staff@bath.ac.uk for more details.
