Welcome to the seventh monthly update aimed at keeping you up to speed on the new Polden Student Accommodation project.
July has seen the completion of foundations and under-building drainage to allow the concrete frame to progress on all areas of the project. The building team continue to have a large amount of concrete delivered every day which is allowing the concrete frame to rise at a great pace while liaising with the University Security department on all deliveries expected on the campus to minimise disruption as much as possible.
They have now cast the first section of the floor slab on level 3 with only two stories left to complete the corner overlooking the West Car Park.
It is at this level where the builders will introduce temporary waterproofing to the slab to reduce the amount of rainwater entering the building to allow internal trades to commence.
Another major milestone will be reached in the next week as internal block work to form the plant rooms, cycle store, bin store, and office space on the ground floor will commence. This will provide dry, secure areas for plumbers and electricians to start installing the plant rooms that will power the building.
A couple of day's production were lost during this month due to high wind speeds which has prevented tower cranes from being used. One of the safety features on all tower cranes is to sound an alarm when wind speeds exceed a certain limit. The build team are looking into alternative alarms with the crane supplier to prevent the alarm from disrupting neighbouring building users.
As always, the team appreciate your patience and understanding whilst the construction phase is ongoing, and continue to work closely with the University Estates, AHS, and Security teams to minimise disruption as much as possible.
