School of Management Project Update - November 2020

Posted in: School of Management

Welcome to the monthly update focused on keeping you up to speed on progress being made at the University of Bath, School of Management project. The building has changed significantly since the last issue of the newsletter with drastic changes to the façade and internally with fit out works commencing. We now see the shape of the building come together and can see some of its final elements.

The external façade has made great strides since the last issue as activity progresses on all elevations of the building. Louvres and glazing have been installed to the north elevation with the last panels being installed to the knuckle area. On the gable ends we see the same with glazing and SFS install in progress. Façade framework is being installed to the east elevation and both the west and south elevations above the pavilion roof. With this progression has come the ability to protect certain sections internally of the building against the elements allowing us to commence with the fit-out works.

On the internals of the building the mechanical and electrical installation continues to progress to all levels. Containment, rainwater pipes and soil vent pipework has been installed through the risers in the east and west wings. This work also continues down at basement level. Plant and equipment have already been loaded out to the basement area and builders work is being closed out to support the install of these elements. We have also recently received the first of deliveries for the duct system and works will progress to the basement as a priority. Additional trades have joined the team in that drylining has now commenced. Works are in progress on level zero (East and West wing) and level one (West wing) installing the first fix stud and board. As a result, we are starting to see the first of the room layouts and how the spaces will be used in its completed state.

At roof level the plant housing to level 5 and access stair to level 6 have since been installed enabling roof finishes to continue. Roof works are in progress to both level five and six installing hot melt. On the atrium roof we have since completed installing the metal roof deck and are in progress with insulating the area. Underneath this we are underway erecting the scaffold frame to enable internal roof finishes to be installed. Down at ground level groundworks continue installing the main drainage runs along the pavilion elevation. We have also completed the waterproof application to the main auditorium and have subsequently closed out the screeding activities in these areas.
