The spectrum of mental health and wellbeing...

… requires a spectrum of approaches and support.

Many of us will have some awareness of mental health and wellbeing and how vast, deep and complex the topic can be.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel and act, and might determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices.

Our unique mental health can be shaped by a variety of factors including past experiences, current environment, future ambitions and much more. Throughout our lives, we are likely to experience a mixture of ups and downs.

As a way of envisaging this, mental health is often described as being on a spectrum and while everyone’s experiences are unique, and many people won’t fit neatly into the headings used in the spectrum, they can be generalised as:

  • Thriving/flourishing: enjoying mostly good mental health
  • Healthy/coping: facing concerns but not currently in difficulty
  • Unsettled/struggling: occupied with life challenges and at high risk of becoming unwell
  • Unwell/in crisis: experiencing poor mental health and significant distress.

Whether you are thriving, coping, struggling or unwell there are a spectrum of tools, techniques, resources and support available.

Take a moment to see what might be valuable for you:
