GenAI in Teaching: Insights from the first CLT Lab session

Posted in: Academic staff development, Artificial Intelligence, Digital skills

Last week saw the launch of our new GenAI Teaching and Learning Lab sessions, where we dove into key discussions shaping GenAI’s role in our classrooms, from quality assurance and professional integrity to the exciting potential of this technology as a coaching tool. We explored pressing questions, like ensuring consistent GenAI use across courses, how to reference involvement transparently, and the appropriateness of AI-generated feedback feedback.

We also considered how these tools can support teachers in refining and streamlining feedback, planning resources, and mind-mapping content. On the pedagogic side, we emphasised keeping the human element central, and whether GenAI can foster reflective teaching practices or help students engage with feedback more dialogically.

These are just a few insights that colleagues across departments shared and aim to talk more about in future.

Our Labs are intended to be a collaborative space to address questions, deepen understanding, and exchange practices.

Interested in joining the conversation? Our next session is on the 27th November, 13:15 – 14:05, and will explore GenAI as a Teaching Assistant.

We’re keen to hear your ideas for future sessions too. If you'd like to suggest a topic, come along, and share your thoughts.

For more guidance on GenAI use and available tools, visit the CLT's AI and Education pages on the Teaching Hub.
