Do you want to take your maths teaching to the next level? Do you want to discover how colleagues across the University are boosting maths engagement or trying out new
approaches and tools? We’re excited to launch the Cauchy Club, a new cross-university community of practice to support and inspire staff teaching maths-related subjects and topic areas.
Whether you're a lecturer, GTA, or involved in maths education in any capacity, the Cauchy Club is your space to connect, collaborate, and contribute to a more engaging and effective maths learning environment.
How can I get involved?
Join the Cauchy Club on Microsoft Teams where you can join our conversation. We have a number of discussion topics already, including "What’s the trickiest maths topic you've taught and how did you handle it?". We also have a launch event planned in September.

Empowering Students Through Community and Creativity 🎓
With support from the Teaching Development Fund (TDF), the Cauchy Club will also host a vibrant programme of student-led and student-inclusive events. These aim to build confidence, foster a sense of belonging, and empower students to take an active role in shaping their learning experience.
Events include:
· Cross-faculty peer learning events where students from different departments and year groups collaborate on problem-solving challenges.
· Interactive sessions like pub-style quizzes, escape-room activities, and “problem of the month” discussions to make maths fun and accessible.
· Think tanks and feedback forums where students can share their experiences and ideas for improving maths teaching and learning.
· Support signposting, helping students connect with existing resources like MASH drop-ins and helpdesks.
If you'd like to learn more or get involved in a student-facing session - or know a GTA who might be interested - please reach out to Sam Hayward.
Whether you're a seasoned lecturer or new to teaching, the Cauchy Club is your space to connect, grow, and make maths fun again.
